FOR THE WHOLE BONDING PROCESS
Integration into the existing production line: wire bonder also covers the casting function
The customer: leading global manufacturer of pressure measuring equipment and sensors
The task:
- The customer works with few wire bonds, but on difficult surfaces.
- The new solution had to fit into the existing automation landscape with flexible manufacturing cells. If possible an additional operational stage – the casting – had to be integrated.
- The bonder itself was not to receive a transport system. Instead it was to be incorporated into a standard transport system (Bosch profile) and only have a separating and lifting station.
- The work pieces contain all the components which are required for the production of the sensor, including those which have nothing to do with the bonding process. A memory element is integrated into the work piece holder and this saves the serial number of the component, the production status and other quality data. In addition quality data is saved on the host computer.
- In the same flexible manufacturing cell there is also a multi-stage dispenser which is also controlled by the bonder and covers the finished bonds with silicone resin.
- When there is a change of component the most that is required is a conversion of the holding down mask on the bonder. In the normal case it can remain the same.
- The work piece holders have the same external contours and the bond programmes are switched over automatically.
Special challenges:
- It was necessary to integrate the F & K Delvotec solution into the transport system of a third-party supplier.
- The recording of operating data was to be incorporated at two levels in the host system.
Highlights of the F & K Delvotec solution:
The bond quality was raised significantly in comparison to the previous individual station solution.

The customer receives two machines from the same source, with the bonder being integrated seamlessly into the existing transport system. The implemented solution includes highly transparent quality data – both online via the host computer and with the component on the work piece holder.
